Thank you, Lands’ End

Lands’ End hit a home run in our book this spring with two must have basics for any girl looking for clothes without the girly!

Thank you, Lands’ End, for actually making a plain t-shirt with a girl (but not girly) style in a wide variety of colors. No ruffled edges or puffy cap sleeves. No tiny bows or rhinestone hearts on the hem. Just a basic t-shirt with ever-so-slightly shaped sides for a less boxy (but not tight) cut and sleeves that are shorter than a unisex tee (but not too short). And a fabulous color palette that goes far beyond pink and pastel, ranging from yellow to cobalt blue to black. I’ve already ordered 4 colors for my daughter! I’m always amazed by how hard it is to find a shirt like this every spring. To me, it’s the perfect shirt (which is why our own line of Girls Will Be shirts, being manufactured as we speak, have a very similar fit)!

The second must have is their “baseball tee that’s all girl”. Couldn’t have said it better myself!

We did not find much else in their girls department that fits our Girls Will Be style. We checked out all 51 “t-shirts and knit tops,” but you are out of luck if you don’t want the typical girl themes (like hearts and butterflies), girly touches (like sparkles and shirred necklines), or uniform polos. We do like these Bermuda shorts, although the colors are more limited than some other brands.

Plain T-Shirt, $10 [all colors shown above]
Girl Baseball Tee, $15 [also in cobalt blue, green, black, burgundy, navy (and pink)]
Bermuda Shorts, $29 [also in bright aqua, white (and pink)]

We just have to share a few graphic T’s from the boys department because my daughter loves anything to do with sea life!  And the only sea life graphic in the girls department has pink fish kissing with hearts for bubbles (not exactly her style!). In addition to the ones below, they have shirts with sharks, manta rays, deep sea explorers, a pirate ship, and a submarine. My daughter already has the first one (the reef shirt)!

Reef graphic, $14.50 | Angler fish (glows in the dark), $14.50 | Save the Waves, $14.50
Sharks baseball, $19.50 | Cool, $14.50

  2. My boy is in that same rashguard. For boys, I struggle to find things that express a bit more zip than navy, gray and brown. Add in avoiding words and mindless sports logos/numbers…and there’s a similar shopping vacuum. I had a bunch of Lands End finds this year too, though.

Nice work you’re doing — keep it up!

    • Thank you, Jenny! I completely agree that many boys face similar challenges when shopping for clothes. The styles seem more and more polarized every year. Thanks for visiting Girls Will Be!

  3. I have two daughters, 12 and 10. Neither is all girly, but my younger one will NOT shop in the girl’s department. Her bathing suits come from the Lands End boys department, and feature longer board shorts than available in the girls department, and rash guards with sharks and octopus. She loves them!

    • Your daughter sounds exactly like my daughter! She is wearing the shark rash guard from Lands End this year and loving it.
