Eventually, we will share with you a whole bunch of links we love, covering everything from girls clothes to parenting blogs to girl empowerment sites. But we are still working on pulling that all together! In the meantime, be sure to check out:
A list of companies started by parents, like us, who want to empower girls to define themselves on their own terms, instead of being limited by the narrow stereotypes too often reflected in the products marketed to them. You’ll find graphics rarely (if ever) seen in the girls department (like fire trucks, hammers, rockets, pirates, and robots) and empowering messages (like “Forget Princess, Call Me President” and “Girls Can’t What?”). Many of these clothes have pink or other girly touches, so they won’t work for the true Girls Will Be girl. But we still want to tell you about all of them, because we love the message they send – girls can be (and wear) whatever they want. And they might work for your girl!
“The world’s largest collection of books, toys, movies, and music for parents, teachers, and others dedicated to raising smart, confident, and courageous girls and, of course, for girls themselves! The site was founded on the belief that all children should have the opportunity to read, play with toys, listen to music, and watch movies that offer positive messages about girls and honor their diverse capabilities. Girls do not have to be relegated to the role of sidekick or damsel in distress; they can be the leaders, the heroes, the champions that save the day, find the cure, and go on the adventure. It is our hope that these high-quality children’s products will help a new generation of girls to grow and pursue whatever dreams they choose — to truly be Mighty Girls!”
