Launch of the Girls Will Be Clothing Line!

We are excited to announce the launch of the Girls Will Be clothing line!

Come check out our custom-made t-shirts, designed with the perfect girl (not girly) fit, vibrant colors, and graphics as unique as the girls in your life. We have so much we want to tell you about them!

THE SHIRT - We had it custom-made in Los Angeles, to get the exact fit and colors we wanted. It has a slimmer fit and shorter sleeves than a boxy unisex t-shirt. But is not overly fitted with tiny cap sleeves, like most t-shirts in the girls department. It’s in the middle!

THE DESIGNS - 14 different ones to choose from. Some have empowering messages, like “Be Awesome.” Some have themes almost never seen in the girls department, like robots, sharks, and outer space. And some are themes you often see on girls shirts, like dogs and sports, but our versions are done without pink or sparkles (and that makes them rare!).

THE DETAILS - Our shirts are made in the USA, 100% cotton, pre-washed to minimize shrinkage, and available in sizes 4-12. They are super soft and built to last!

The best way for small companies like ours to grow is word-of-mouth.  So if you like our clothes and the shopping resources on our blog, please tell your friends  about Girls Will Be. Almost all of them will know at least one girl who doesn’t like to wear “girly” clothes (at least not all of the time!). We just need your help finding them!

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

  1. Thank you so much for this. It gives me hope that society is moving in the right direction… I would have loved these when I was a child. I wish they came in adult sizes! :) I would be proudly rocking your shark T-shirt and backpack. You are doing a great thing here!

  2. I really love this clothing line and I’ve been looking for clothes like this forever. I’m a huge tomboy and I’m extremely picky when it comes to even the tiniest bow. I also LOVE wolves and I was wondering if maybe you could make a shirt with a wolf on it? Thanks so much for making this awesome clothing line! :)

  3. As a high school Spanish teacher, let me say “Muchas gracias!” and “bien hecho!” However, also as a high school teacher I must say that I cannot afford your lovely and much needed products. I’ll look for them in the second hand market, though, for sure!

  4. Can I just say THANK YOU!!! I remember as a teenager shopping for clothes and not finding (for instance) shorts that weren’t too short in my opinion. I wore long pants even in HOT Missouri weather my entire youth. Now that I am a mother of a very “trendy” 3-year old I fear the day that she will want to walk into “Justice” stores with the age inappropriate clothing lines, but i did not want to doom her to baggy clothes either. Knowing that someone out there is working diligently to bring back a balance between trendy and appropriate is very reassuring.

    Thank you so much,
    The Barclays

    • I live in Missouri too. Anyway, I am an 11 year old, and I shop at Justice, but if I am trying something on, I always think that anything around mid-thigh is TOO short. I know what things appropriate for my age are.

  5. This is great. We are always shopping in boys, even boys shoes for my daughter. Please come out with (not too short) shorts soon!

    Happy Mom

  6. This is awesome! Will you consider going bigger in the future? My eleven-year-old is in size 16 but she would love this stuff and, wow, do the pre-teens and early teens need stuff like this, too. I would buy two for her and two for my toddler right now, if I could!

  7. This is cool. I wish something like this had been around when I was a kid. All we got were pink clothes. If you looked hard enough, you could maybe find stuff that wasn’t pink, but it was a challenge. Also yes on the dressy clothes that aren’t dresses. Not all girls are into frills and lace and pink-sparkly-poo stuff. At least make some nice dress pants and button-down shirts.

  8. This is a genius idea. My friends and i have this conversation all the time about girl clothes. I have an 11 year old in a size 12 or 14. Bigger sizes would be great. We need tween clothes that look like they are for tweens and not 20 year olds. Our schools require shorts to be at your fingertips with your arms to the side, yet shorts of this length are impossible to find. I would love to find jean shorts that are a respectable length. My daughter is not a tomboy but she’s over the glitter. Bra tops and booty shorts is all you see for girls her age. She’s tall enough that she can fit into some of the things in the more popular teen stores and i refuse to buy things in there. She’s a kid and she needs kid clothes, there has to be tasteful/cool clothing for kids her age. I think you are headed in the right direction. I’m so glad i stumbled upon this blog. I will continue watching, waiting for bigger sizes! I wish you all the best, this is seriously what every mom I know is looking for. I will be sharing on FB right now!

  10. My daughter is 7 1/2 and has NEVER liked pink. Not a girly girl myself, I have been looking for clothing for her that doesnt scream princess. She wears her 10 year old brothers hand me downs. I saw the article on NBC.com this morning and said out loud “Yes!” Thank you for coming up with this!! I am looking forward to shopping with you!!! Sincerely…Sarah in Seattle

  11. I LOVE what you are doing with this clothing line!! And like everyone else, I beg you to expand it!!!

From the moment my daughter was born last year, everything she has been given has been pink. Worse, the infant bathing suits are “sexy” styles. One shoulder? Teeny bikinis?? On a baby?!?! I am desperate to find ways to dress her, even in her younger years, that let her know she has CHOICES.

Also, her 12-year old half-sister could use some more choices. She is a tomboy and has yet to find a store anywhere that has more than one or two acceptable items of clothing in any given season.

Thanks for your efforts and keep up the amazing work you are doing!!

    • Thank you Mara! Your description of your 12 year-old is exactly how I describe the challenge of shopping for my daughter. It’s an exhaustive search to uncover the one or two pieces from each brand that fit her style. It just shouldn’t be that hard! We are a small business, but we are growing fast and will definitely be looking into various options for expansion. Thanks for your support!

  12. Please please either post or make some pantsuits for girls who refuse to dress up in dresses or skirts but need to go to weddings, funerals, and more formal parties! Every time we get an invitation, we groan. Thank you!

    • I feel your pain! I’ve never seen a good pantsuit for girls, but we’ll keep our eyes out for one. Thanks for visiting Girls Will Be!

  13. Thanks for taking this leap with girls’ clothing! My girl has such a tough time finding clothes without sparkles/flowers, etc. Can’t wait to show her your site!

    • I hope she loves our designs! It’s harder than it should be, right? I kept thinking somebody really should make clothes for girls like my daughter and yours. Eventually, I decided to do it myself! Thanks for visiting Girls Will Be!

  14. I love your shirts! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I hope you’ll start making shirts in toddler (2T/3T) sizes soon because my not-quite-2-year-olds are too small for a 4/5!

    • So great to hear from you! We think there is such a huge unmet need for clothes like these, and we love hearing from parents that like our style. If our current girls line is successful, we will definitely consider expanding into smaller sizes. 15. I’d love to see one with at least one horse on it. I may only have boys, but I can think of one little girl I’d love to give a non-girly shirt to. A horse theme would be perfect for her.

  17. I LOVE your line– and wish you would make your tees in larger sizes, for older girls and MOMs… As the mother of a 27 year old non-girly girl, and the teacher of middle schoolers, I would love to be able to have several of your shirts in my size and my daughter’s size.

Any plans to expand your line for us older non-girlys? Please say yes!!!

    • So great to hear from you! Our t-shirts are custom-made (in order to get the not-too-boxy but not-too-fitted fit and vibrant colors that we want for our brand), so each size we add requires a significant investment. But we have had lots of requests for larger sizes (including women’s sizes), so we will definitely consider that as we continue to grow.
